colour. emotion. connection.
Kim Saunders is an abstract impressionist artist based in Tasmania, working with colour, texture, and layered mark making to explore emotional resonance and quiet observation.
Her practice combines acrylic, hand stitching, spray paint, and oil pastel, creating works that balance structure and spontaneity. With a background in photography and graphic design, she brings a strong sense of composition and visual rhythm, guided by an intuitive approach to colour.
Each piece is a response to slowing down long enough to notice what is often overlooked. The colours, the layers, the stitched details — they come from the parts of life that don’t always have words. Her work moves between boldness and restraint, where vivid colour sits alongside softness, and repetition allows subtle variation to emerge.
Colour is how she processes the world. the light, the weather, the quiet in between everything. The work often begins with something small: a moment, a walk, a feeling not yet fully formed. Rather than overcomplicating the process, she allows each piece to build slowly, layer by layer, until it feels resolved.
This practice is a way of paying attention.
